What the advice covers

Eight areas, one position.

A tax position is not a set of separate answers. The areas below are advised together, because a decision taken in one of them almost always shows up in another.

01

Domestic & international taxation

Advice on both sides of the border, for entities whose money, staff or suppliers do not stay inside one.

02

Tax planning

Structuring the position before the year closes rather than explaining it afterwards.

03

Tax health checks

A review of where the entity actually stands against its obligations — registrations, filings, exposures.

04

Corporate structuring & re-organisations

The tax consequences of changing the shape of a business, priced into the decision rather than discovered after it.

05

Tax exemptions for NGOs

The exemption regimes open to non-profits and philanthropies, and the compliance those regimes carry.

06

Tax-related due diligence

What a counterparty’s tax position really is, established before a transaction rather than inherited with it.

07

Transfer pricing

Pricing between related entities, documented to the standard a revenue authority will ask for.

08

Employee taxes

PAYE, NSSF and the employment-tax consequences of how people are engaged, paid and reimbursed.

These further include 11 items

What we actually do, month to month.

  1. 01

    Assess the registration

The client’s tax registration with the Uganda Revenue Authority reviewed and assessed against what the entity actually does.

  2. 02

    Advise on the obligations

What the company owes under tax law by way of registrations, returns and payments — stated plainly, before a deadline turns it into a penalty.

  3. 03

    Manage audits and objections

Assistance through URA audits and reviews, and objection management where an assessment needs to be contested.

  4. 04

    Register and deregister

Tax registration and deregistration handled as the entity’s circumstances require.

  5. 05

    Prepare the income tax returns

Guidance on and preparation of Provisional Tax Return forms (DT-2004) and Final Income Tax Return forms (DT-2002); our responsibility is limited to the completeness of the forms.

  6. 06

    File online as Tax Agent

Subject to appointment as Tax Agent, online income tax returns filed from receipt of the company’s information.

  7. 07

    Run the monthly compliance returns

Monthly compliance returns prepared and reviewed for VAT, PAYE, NSSF and Withholding Tax where applicable.

  8. 08

    Answer the specific questions

General and specific guidance on VAT, individual and corporate income tax, PAYE, withholding taxes, customs duties and excise levies, on a need-to-know basis.

  9. 09

    Liaise with URA

Correspondence and clarification with the revenue authority on the client’s behalf — with the client’s approval before anything goes out.

  10. 10

    Flag what is changing

The client updated on upcoming tax-law changes that may affect monthly compliance, ahead of the month they land in.

  11. 11

    Coordinate the other parties

Revenue authorities, statutory auditors and other tax consultants coordinated with as the engagement requires.

Where does the entity stand today?

A tax health check is the usual opening move: what is registered, what is filed, what is outstanding, and what it will cost to close.
